WHAT THEY THOUGHT LIFE WOULD BE LIKE IN 1999

1999AD.jpgWe just fell in love with this educational video produced for schools by Philco-Ford in 1967 called “1999 A.D.” It’s all about the house of tomorrow (maybe inspired by our favorite section of Disneyland -Tomorrowland) and what they thought family life would be like thirty odd years in the future. Keep in mind this is long before the internet. They correctly predicted a lot of things including email – calling it “home post office” – and home shopping. But many of the great notions never came to fruition. Try to identify the FAMOUS GAME SHOW HOST who plays the dad in the future family. He said he nearly didn’t take the job because the ideas sounded so impossible. We’re always amazed because no one predicted everyone in the new millennium would be walking down the street talking on cell phones.

  1. You know long before cell phones there were devices called Repeaters, which are still around and used by small and large businesses and ham operators as well as the public service sector.
You know the funny thing about cellphones now, but in the future they’ll all be satellite driven and those unsightly towers will come down, all in good timing that is. But, whomever you signed on with to be your provider it’ll be all the same, depending on what services you desire and are willing to pay for.
Now if somebody will just make a laptop which runs on MSDOS for all those old but great programs and sell it for $50 to hobbyist. That’d really be something.

  2. It’s easier than you think.
You wanna know how we live in 2040? “Think or read books or watch movies” out of the year 1974. With a little imagination we know how we live by then!!
The Basics stay the same: A WHEEL IS ROUND, NEWS IS NEWS(only HOW it is brought to yoy is quite different), unfortunately WAR is WAR!!

  3. Star Trek II had some neat idea on hologram and vacations, I suppose that sort of ties in with that HUGE Plasma Screen HDTV some folks can afford, which when turned off could act as a huge picture frame of fine art displayed on it.

  4. Not only is the dad famous, but the mom is Marj Dusay, best known for her long-running role as “Alexandra Spaulding” on “Guiding Light.”

  5. Food For Thought? Or perhaps nonsence. To each their own on faith, and beliefs. says:

Will the earth still exist in 2067? 2099?
    I cringe at the thought.
Fire and brimstone?? Supposedly we’re living in end times, but we haven’t yet become a cashless society, nor has Isreal had peace.
Isn’t there supposed to be a dynamic, amazing leader to rise up who promotes world peace, no more wars, and a One World, One system, One leader; that makes everyone acccept “the mark of the beast?”
Look at Will Smith’s new movie; even Hollywood, which influences the entire world, knows we are heading in some sort of destructive direction..

  6. We need to advance faster! Japan is already way beyond the U.S., and Korea is coming up quick says:

My question is: Why did it take so long for the US to develop technology such as cell phones, email, internet, GPS, ??
We as humans have been around for over a few thousand years…….only in the 20th century did we advance greatly…….but still have the same problems like AGING, WAR, VIOLENCE, Family betrayal, gossiping, ect, as they did in the days of Moses.

  7. “We’re always amazed because no one predicted everyone in the new millennium would be walking down the street talking on cell phones.”
Actually, Robert Heinlein wrote about them in his science fiction novels, circa late 1950s-early 1960s.

  8. Yes, I believe we are living in the last days (right before the Rapture of believers). The Rapture will occur before the unveiling of Anti-Christ. All prophecies of Jesus have been fulfilled. Israel has become a burden and trembling-stone to all nations. Then 7 years of tribulation will begin and end with Christ return to set up his kingdom. The battle of Armaggedon begins and ends quickly with Christ triumphant and 1000 years of peace begins.

  9. Life is hard and then your stuck with the future and not knowing what is going to happen but you make the best of what you have a do the best you can and like Prince said your party like its 1999 and there after life is a struggle and gets harder and bills are crazy and…..Life is tuff and people you meeting you in the middle rather then half way and there are people out there who take advantage and will use you but that happends each and every year and you have to make a point of hanging out with nice people that are kind and sweet and thoughtful and loving and just pick your friends by your heart and soul and it is all about love and trust and some one that cares about you and want to honor and love and respect you as a person.
