WHITNEY HOUSTON WAS A TEENAGE COVER GIRL

We didn’t know Whitney Houston was a teen model. It’s 1981 and for some reason this magazine cover has a Norman Rockwell innocent quality. Whitney was an up and coming fresh young model and she turned 18 on the day she posed for this photograph. She was one of the first black models to grace a Seventeen cover.

  1. It’s my understanding that when Mrs. Houston was first approached about Whitney becoming a model, she turned down the offer, because she wanted Whitney to finish HS first. Mrs. Houston
felt that if it was meant for Whitney to model,
the opportunities would still be available after she completed high school and she was right!!

  2. P.S.
2012 Marks the 20th year after the release of The Bodyguard. I would Not be surprised if that film was brought back in limited release. If it was shown as a double feature with Whitney Houston’s last featured film Sparkle, I would Not be surprised if it generated Big Bucks at The Box Office. I am just saying!!

  3. she had the looks, the talent and the success but the drugs destroyed all of that and then some.
    pay attention folks.
reclaim your sobriety and your life.

  4. As to this cover , I am struck by a couple of things: she looks DARK in this ad, which she wasn’t in real life. Either that, or she slowly lightened herself like MJ did, I don’t know, but I never knew her to be dark like this pic shows.

AND I find it positively AMAZING that in 1981 a black female would be a rarity on ANY cover, let alone a teen modeling one. Shocking! GEEZ, it wasn’t 1875 or something!

  5. Yes, I remember she was a teen model. She was very beautiful and talented, too bad she was enabled all the way to her grave.

  6. This has been shown before. She was just a kinky headed black girl and nothing special in the looks department. Like the Jackson’s and others she was a typically black black. As they became more ashamed of their color they tried to wash it all out.

This is about the time her lesbianism began. As soon as the $$$ started rolling in the enabling and overlooking that would lead to her downfall also began.

  7. @anonTWO,

Top of the morning greeting to You!!
Do you remember the old spend a day with Clint Eastwood features??
Hang Em’High, A Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More, and The Good, Bad, and The Ugly??

  8. Leo, I don’t recall those days because of my youth but I did see GrindHouse a few years back and I LOVED IT.

  9. Leo, I agree…they’ll probably re-release “The Bodyguard”….only it’ll be in 3-D….ala “The Titanic.”

What bothers me about the cover photo is that Whitney might be on the cover, but she has an ice cream cone covering part of her face, while the white model was evidently told to hold it away from her face.

  10. Her skin is so dark in the picture. I don’t recognize her. Clearly she lightened her skin over the years. That seems to be the trend with black people. Seems like I recall seeing a picture of Oprah when she had darker skin.

  11. Whitney looks a little, thick in this photo. Maybe this is where her drug issues started? A need to be thin to keep her modeling career going? Not sure, but the Whitney I was familiar with was always stick thin.

  12. P.S.
Laughing out loud at the thought of The Bodyguard in 3-D!!
I am looking forward to TITANIC in 3-D. I saw The Lion King in 3-D and loved it. Even though we all know how TITANIC ends, just the idea of the detailed scenes is what I am looking forward to. * I will Not be driving when I go to see it, because I will be seeing it at a Cafe’ Theater, so that I can be wined and dined while watching The Big Screen.
All is forgiven in Whitney’s Seventeen Cover Debut. She may have been the flavor of the month, but I still do Not know the Name of the model that she shared the cover with. Until Next time!!

  13. Way back when she used to be classy with a God given gift and threw it all away with all the wrong choices.
She died fighting over a boytoy that used to be Kim Kard…’s ex.

  14. Whitney does seem to be very dark. But she was a beautiful girl, with fine bone structure and not exaggerated features.Lovely! She had a gorgeous smile and a sparkling personality. I wonder what trauma happened during her childhood to get her to self medicate like that. When
I see an addict or alcoholic,I say to myself ” there but for the grace of God go I.” It can happen to anyone. But it is still up to the individual to get treatment for as long as it takes. Unparalleled voice! Sad story. Sad situation.

  15. Yep…Oprah was as black as Mississippi and had the kinky hair going on until she used EEOC to push her way into broadcasting.

  16. Jesus fucking christ! You are so fucking corny strom. So barbara streisend used her jew nose. George bush 1 used his father nazi connects to get to president. George soros is using obama to upsurp middle class money to provide for jews.
