WHY DON’T WE FEEL SORRY FOR ERIN ANDREWS?

Despite being a feminist, we find ourselves oddly detached and somewhat unsympathetic about Erin Andrews’ 75 million dollar lawsuit against the Marriott Hotel where she was secretly filmed naked. Her stalker, Michael David Barrett, who did the filming, is now in jail. But the video is somewhere on the internet. Do we feel less sympathetic because Erin feels SO SORRY for herself? Her sobbing in the courtroom about how her life has been ruined, that she is a broken soul, and even her love life has been negatively affected, is off-putting. (Before the crime, we had never heard of Erin and her career has since blossomed.) We couldn’t help but think about countless women who are raped and brutalized and left for dead, but the criminal is NEVER caught and there is NO ONE to sue. Since we saw the courtroom “poor little me” histrionics we actually feel LESS sympathetic for this beautiful successful woman. Wallowing in self-pity is not pretty. The sole perpetrator has been caught and punished. Being embarrassed is not the same as being raped or mauled. Is there a greedy lawyer pushing her to do this? If she wins, we hope she will donate the money to women’s causes.

  1. Interesting how you have been quiet about Hillary Clinton who purposefully went out and harassed and threatened all of Bill’s lovers and Juanita Broaddrick who Bill raped. Janet, you are a g-d d-mn hypocrite but thankfully no one will ever want to video tape your ugly ass.

  2. Kind of surprised, Janet. Go back to watch Gaga’s Oscar performance… Till it happens to you, you don’t know what it’s like. There are lots of shades of sexual assault, and Erin is no less a victim because she happens to be beautiful.

  3. I agree with Janet. Erin Andrews is not a likeable or sympatric person. I know what happened to her was dreadful.

  4. A new low, Janet. What kind of crap headline is that? You don’t need to feel sorry for her, but you certainly don’t need to put out garbage like that. No man or woman deserves to be peeped on in a hotel or their home. period. Disappointed in your negativity

  5. since he was sentenced in 2010 to 2.5 years i am pretty sure he is out of the slammer. :

Barrett, who has until May 3 to surrender, was ordered to have
supervised probation for three years after his release, during
which he will be prohibited from contacting Andrews, her family or friends.

He will not be allowed to stay in a hotel without approval of a probation officer and if he accepts employment somewhere, Andrews
will be notified. Barrett was also ordered to pay $5,000 in fines and $7,366 in restitution, but the judge said further restitution may be imposed to compensate ESPN.

Her attorney said she will not file a lawsuit against Barrett.

  6. Who is ‘we’? Do you have a large staff?

  7. I think it’s because she is overacting. And the Oscar goes to … Wasn’t her boyfriend a big drug user? She says she can’t go out in crowds and be around people blah blah blah but there she is, half dressed, on Dancing With the Stars. She deserves something, but it sure isn’t 75 million bucks.

  8. Was Erin, like little Angelo, engaged in “pleasuring” herself and caught on camera?

  9. Speak for yourself. I feel sorry for this woman. Would you like to have someone peeking in on you when you thought you were alone. That’s what a pervert is called. This is something she will carry for the rest of her life. So what if she went on Dancing With The Stars ? She has a life to lead and let her lead it. Doesn’t matter what she was doing in that hotel room it’s her business and not anyone else’s. I wonder if this people who have posted unkind words would feel the same if it happened to them. My heart goes out to her and anyone else who has been stalked, raped or harassed by anyone.

  10. I agree, Janet. Enough crying and grandstanding. If she acted like a strong, outraged woman in court, and said she was going to donate that money to causes that battle abuse against women, I’d support her. But all of the whining is nothing but annoying. She needs to wrap up this case and move on. She’s famous now.

  11. kait is correct and she might gain some sympathy. But it seems she wants to be a victim of peepers who must have caught her and her “little mechanical friend” in the act!

  12. This woman is not pretty, she looks like a witch. She’s just a tall thin fake blonde. She’s more famous now than ever. She should thank her stalker.

  13. I think Janet’s comments and all of the ones agreeing with her are reprehensible. Who are any of you to judge what Erin Andrews went through and is still going through because some minimum wage hotel employee couldn’t follow the simplest of rules? Would you like to be videotaped nude without your knowledge and have it posted on the internet? If the answer is yes, then good for you! That is your CHOICE. Ms. Andrews didn’t get to make that choice.

Janet, I am done with your second rate site. Shame on you.

  14. Janet I am shocked. Anything that lands on the internet is there forever so it’s like you are being abused over and over. People have committed suicide over things like this. Take your feminism and shove it.

  15. For the of you so outraged over Janet’s post, she is only stating how most of the public feels. Most people don’t really care or feel bad for erin Andrews. She’s not very likable and she’s already profited handsomely from her peephole exploits.

  16. Wow. I am pretty grossed out by your post Janet. You don’t need to like her to understand that what happened was reprehensible. It actually is very much an assault to have someone photograph you without your consent, in the privacy of your personal space. And to have video or pictures of you naked on the internet where any douche bag can see you, again, without your consent, is horrible.

Shame on you. You are a second rate feminist. I am not impressed.

  17. Strom, what if she was? She assumed she was alone in a private hotel room. Are you getting a boner just thinking about it, you pervert? Probably.

  18. Strom, why all this interest in other people’s sexual proclivities? Do you have to pay for it, since no one will be with you by choice? How many times have YOU pleasured yourself to the video of Ms. Andrews?

  19. Right on, J.J.! These other vitriolic posters don’t know what Erin went through, yet they post like they did. Morons.

  20. Poor Shelby, an Erin enabler it seems! Maybe another candidate for Hall Monitor.

Erin’s lawyers are the real winners.

  21. Poor Glen, so bitter. Erin got caught with her “little friend” turned on high and she blamed the world. Like Fred Gold$$n its all about money!
