“WILL & GRACE” STAR DEBRA MESSING IS MAKING A FALL COMEBACK

Debra Messing looks like she hasn’t a care in the world as she relaxes outside a yogurt shop and reads her book. In fact, the Will & Grace star has a lot to look forward to – she’s starring in an NBC pilot this fall called “Smash.” It’s a musical show about Broadway that has been compared to “A Chorus Line.” Debra plays a song writer. She’ll have a hard time topping the success of “Will & Grace” – one of our all-time favorites. (Does anyone else think Will & Grace” jumped the shark when Debra got pregnant?)

  1. Jumped the shark with her pregnancy?

Oh absolutely. And the worst part—IMHO—was that since it wasn’t written into the show, Debra was pretty much rooted to the couch or stuck behind some obstruction to disguise her condition. Hard to write write interesting situations with characters who can’t MOVE.

But when I was still had a TV I caught the early episodes in syndication, and was amazed at how the actress who plated Karen evolved in that role; once she kicked her voice up a notch, it was off to the races—she stole a lot of scenes over the years!

  2. Awww nuts. Proofreading demands that I should probably put down my drink. Apologies, all 🙂

  3. (By the way, the most on-point criticism that I heard about Debra during production was, “she isn’t as funny as she thinks she is.” And she wasn’t.)

  4. “Our all-time favorites?” Speak for yourself. I hated that show.

  5. Lola: ditto, ditto, ditto. Too many fags and always wondering who was going to kiss who. Gross.

  6. i love that she’s got a book in her hands, not an electronic device

  7. kait: debra keeps her “magnum xl platinum edition” vibrator discreetly tucked away in her purse—as a true lady should

  8. I think kait was talking about a Kindle or a Nook, thanks for asking, but thank you for the laugh. I also prefer books to my Kindle. Can’t comment on the xl platinum edition vibrator.

  9. Her character was frequently the butt of jokes written to emphasize her sexual undesirability, appearance, personal habits, etc.

After all, this was a show created and written BY gay men, FOR gay men, with often barely disguised misogyny at its core.

Also notable for the times some convolution of plot would result in a character exclaiming admiringly, “Gotta love the jews!”

    Uh, nope.

  10. The show should have been called “Just Jack and Karen”… those are the two that were the best in that show. I always thought Grace’s character was boring… I liked Will though.

  11. It is nice to see her come back and do something new….She is a pretty Red Head actress…Who can also make me laugh!

  12. She looks truely amazing! Really missed her when Will-Grace show ended!Happy she is coming back in another way.

  13. I like her as a red head and she is meant to be that way and she looks so good but at the same time what ever piece of work she is doing…Is something she is putting her heart and soul into it and she is Beautiful and has a great personalily and she smart and she has talent that is raw and she has style and class and I want to wish her well and hope her future gets better on many levels but there are times in a person life where they do something great and you role and go with the punches but sooner or later you have to get off the ride and always look back on the body of work that has been done and remember that the futures holds something amazing for all of us and that in life you make history and you make people laugh and cry and you torch there hearts and give them pure joy and funny times and I just want to say Thank You and…I am opened minded to anything and everything you do?
