WILL THE NEW “VACATION” BE TWICE AS FUNNY – OR HALF AS FUNNY AS THE ORIGINAL?
Looks like Christina Applegate will slip into Beverly D’Angelo’s shoes in the reboot of the 1980s family comedy Vacation. Ed Helms of Bachelor Party fame is signed to play the Chevy Chase “Dad” role. The reboot will be updated in that the son Rusty (originated by Anthony Michael Hall) now grown up and married, will take his wife and kids on a vacation similar to the one he remembers with his family in the 80’s. Ed Helms will play the grown up Rusty and Christina will play his restless wife. The original Vacation was written by John Hughes and directed by Harold Ramis – it will be interesting to compare the two.

I always liked Christina; she has overcome a lot of obstacles. Beverly was so good as Ellen Griswald and Christina is def the best choice to replace her.

How can anything be funnier than Randy Quaid’s cousin Eddie not to mention the wonderful Imogene Coco as Aunt Edna. Her ride home on the roof of the “family truckster” is hysterical.

Hi Denise,
These Vacation movies were THE best. I have watched them over and over and they always put you in a good mood. The only one imho that was not quite up to par was Vegas Vacation, but it was still good. lol

These comedic reboots never work. The old jokes just don’t come off the same way. They come and flop so fast. The ones that are not comedy reboots sometimes work because they can be updated and still have the flavor of the original. But even then……

Remakes are never as good as the originals, are the writers in Hollyweird all out of ideas?

I, too, agree that the drivel being doled out from H-Wood is awful. they make big bucks for recycling other peoples ideas.
Having said that, I loved this movie! If they can pulll this off, it’ll be great!!!

Hi Indy, I didn’t really like European Vacation either. The original and Christmas Vacation are hysterical. Again, Randy Quaid’s Eddie is a scream.
Hollywood needs new ideas. I understand the remakes are for those who didn’t get to enjoy the originals, but really, they are never as good or as funny.
